According to a new report from Re/Code, Qualcomm will use Samsung’s technologies to build its next high-end Snapdragon 820 chipset.

Samsung offers the most advanced production technology at the time. The main reason is the shift from 20- to 14 nm manufacturing.

Qualcomm opted for Samsung over TSMC because of the belief that thinner wires mean smaller and cheaper chips along with better battery life. The Snapdragon 820 is the next generation of Qualcomm’s top-end chip family, designed for the 2016 flagship devices from the leading manufacturers.

This is an interesting move as Samsung recently made the decision to replace the Snapdragon 810 processor in its Samsung Galaxy S6 with their proprietary solution, citing the overheating problems of Qualcom's processor as the reason for the switch.
