Capcom announced today that it is working on a full-fledged remake of Resident Evil 2.

For years, fans have been begging Capcom to give Resident Evil 2 the Resident Evil Remake treatment. Today, their pleas have finally been answered as Yoshiaki Hirabayashi of Capcom's R&D Division 1 announced that the remake of Resident Evil 2 has officially been approved for development.

Hirabayashi thanked the fans for their passion and support which made this announcement a reality.

You've been telling us for years that you want Resident Evil 2 to be remade, and we haven't been able to make it happen...until now!” said Hirabayashi.

He also confirmed that the team will be listening closely to the feedback of the Resident Evil community to deliver a gameplay experience that the fans have been waiting for. As the project has only jest been approved, Hirabayashi explains that it will be quite some time before the team can deliver another update. However, he adds that in the meantime, fans can look forward to other brand related releases, such as the HD remaster of Resident Evil 0.

No platform or release date has been confirmed for Resident Evil 2 Remake, but it's a pretty safe bet to expect the title to make its way to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The announcement video can be seen below.
